In our series Community Threads, we bring together the creative individuals who make up our TOAST shop teams and explore the ways in which they thoughtfully style pieces from our new collections.

In this instalment, we visit our San Francisco shop, newly opened in the historic Jackson Square neighbourhood. Once home to celebrated thinkers – from Mark Twain to the writers of the Beat Generation – the red-brick streets of this storied district now host an eclectic mix of galleries, studios, and restaurants. Our TOAST shop occupies a beautifully preserved 1860s building, which, many decades ago, played a role in San Francisco’s chocolate-making industry.

Patricia

Patricia has lived in San Francisco for three years. A self-described “music and film enthusiast”, she also spends her spare time trying out local eateries in the Jackson Square neighbourhood. “We really do have one of the best food scenes here in San Francisco – as a foodie, I am in heaven.”

Patricia is 5’7 and wears a UK 10. She is photographed in the A Line Denim Tunic Dress, the Baya Patch Pocket Organic Cord Shirt, and the Fracap Leather Trail Boots. “I love the different textures this outfit brings together, while still being so comfortable to wear.”

Madeline

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Madeline spent two years in Hawaii before moving back to be closer to family. “My favourite thing about San Francisco is our weather, and how beautiful the fog looks coming over the hills,” she says. “Since joining TOAST, I’ve loved meeting our neighbours. Some of the kindest people live and work around Jackson Square.”

Madeline is 5’8 and wears a UK 14. She has chosen the Vespertine Floral Print Column Dress and the Sturlini Tall Leather Boots. “My favourite thing about the dress is the drape of the material – and the fact that it has pockets!”

Natasha

Originally from Portland, Oregon, Natasha moved to San Francisco two years ago. Outside of work, her interests include leatherworking, painting, acting, and writing. “I love how Jackson Square feels like a bit of a small, creative village, with brick buildings and the ornate façades. I'm often drawn in by the collection of curiosities at William Stout Architectural Books.”

Natasha is 5’7 and wears a UK 6. Here, she wears the Patch Pocket Organic Cord Jacket and the Wide Leg Organic Cord Pants with the Novesta Star Master Waxed Cotton Plimsolls. “It's a playful take on workwear, which is fun and functional. I like how the brown works with the rich yellow in the shoes – it feels really seventies.”
