Guided by Material

In the rolling countryside outside Odense, Denmark, ceramicist Lærke Møller Hansen crafts functional stoneware rooted in natural materials and honest forms. Founder of Danish Clay Design, Lærke has been working in ceramics for over a decade, drawing inspiration from the sand dunes and pine forests of her childhood on the West Coast of Jutland.

Originally trained in biotechnology, Lærke shifted paths to study at the Royal Danish Academy School of Design. A research trip to Japan left a lasting impression, deepening her connection to simplicity and the tactile beauty of clay. Her work is guided by the materials themselves - she allows form to emerge organically, embracing texture, variation, and the subtlety of natural tone.

Lærke develops her own glazes using found materials such as local sand and wood ash, creating finishes that echo the muted palette of the Danish landscape.
